I recommend How Raven Brought Light to People by Ann Dixon. This engaging retelling of a traditional Alaska Native legend shares how Raven brings light to the world, offering readers a glimpse into Indigenous storytelling
I loved this beautiful, yet sad tale of how Mount Susitna came to be. This folktale has been told since at least the 1930's. The paintings used to illustrate this book remind me of beautiful quilts. The colors are rich and have the feel of Native american art.. The peaceful compassion of this tribe comes through and make the story more poignant.
I recommend The Sleeping Lady by Ann Dixon. This beautifully illustrated book retells an Alaskan legend about Mount Susitna, known as the “Sleeping Lady,” and offers a meaningful story about love, loss, and peace. I enjoyed learning how this mountain got its name and appreciated the connection to Alaskan culture and landscape.
I recommend Blueberry Shoe by Ann Dixon for its sweet and thoughtful story. I loved how the little shoe traveled through nature and was eventually found and taken home by the same baby who lost it. The story shows a special connection between people and the land, and the ending feels warm and satisfying.
