Beautiful illustrations and really soothing, meditative prose that borders on poetry. I love the cadence of the story; it fits the theme of wind as breath so well, and just sort of lulls the reader into the pages.
Slapdash rhyming lets down an otherwise entertaining, dotty-eyed romp.
Summary: The Great Pancake Escape is about a father who is a magician, but does not seem to be much of a cook. The father mistakenly uses the wrong book when attempting to make pancakes. The mix up brings the pancakes to life and the children begin a journey around town to get the pancakes back to the table.
Personal Reflection: I really enjoyed this book. The story was fun and used the pancakes in some interesting ways. I think the illustrations were the best part of the book because of the show more detail on every page. I enjoyed the humorous way Scott Gotto used the rabbit on almost every page.
Classroom Extension: 1)After the teacher reads the book to the class ask the students questions about what was in the pictures, such as, what were the pancakes used for on the bus. 2) Bring in cardboard cut out like pancakes to assist in in learning multiplication. show less
