Pathways to the Presidency: A Guide to the Lives, Homes, and Museums of the U.S. Presidents (Non Series) by Gerald Lee Gutek
At first glance, this volume by G. Gutek (emer., Loyola Univ.
Chicago) and P. Gutek (travel writer/editor) may appear to be a guide on
how to become a US president. Instead, however, the authors provide a
meticulously researched and informative book about US heads of state.
Starting with George Washington and ending with George W. Bush, this
volume features brief biographies and descriptions of birthplaces, homes, museums, and, for some subjects, presidential libraries. The aurhors also
supply show more directions, hours of operation, cost of admission, and, in some
cases, pictures of historical places belonging to 42 of the 43 men who
have occupied the White House. William Henry Harrison, the 31-day
president, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the longest-serving president,
receive similar treatment. Overall, this is a truly wonderful and fascinating
journey into the homes and lives of the US presidents. Summing Up:
Highly recommended. *** Lower-level undergraduates through
