- Short biography
- Sheila Och (also known as Sheila Ochová) was born in Redhill, England, a daughter of Czech refugees. After World War II, she and her family returned to Prague, where she studied at the Film Academy with classmate Milan Kundera. She moved Germany in 1971 and worked in the library of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Bonn. There she was in charge of the Eastern Europe Department and participated in various book projects. In the 1990s, she became known as the author of children's books. She received the Deutschen Jugendliteraturpreis (German Youth Literature Prize) in 1997 for her book Karel, Jarda und das wahre Leben (Karel, Jarda and Real Life).
