Writing to God is a Lenten devotional tool, providing forty-seven insightful prayers for personal reflection and an equal number of scripturally-based writing prompts to guide readers/writers in their own praying. Each prayer draws its readers into a moment of meditation, even as it sets an example for the accompanying prompt. Paired together, these prayers and writing prompts offer daily devotions for the Lenten season, including Sundays and Holy Week.
NCLA Review -If you are a writer and you want to be able to pray as a discipline, then this might be the book for you. Each day the author offers a thought, a poem, sometimes a paraphrase of Scripture, a statement about God and a Scripture reading. Under the reading there is a prompt to help you think and write down a prayer, so essentially you are creating a prayer journal. As I began to work through the book, I realized that I didn’t feel inspired to write prayers. I was interested in show more her poetry and thoughts on Scripture, but I didn’t feel the need to put pen to paper about it. I wanted a little more input from the author about her feelings or prompts to explore our feelings. An interesting concept, but it didn’t speak to me or encourage me to write.
