Smith's Bible dictionary is an old warhorse, but good for a couple of reasons. Becasue it was written (and revised) before the twentieth century, it treats biblical matters in light of the Bible only, and not new fangled archaeological theories or new chronologies or new textual theories. This allows you to study not only with the light of modern findings, but the lack of modern findings. Make sense?
Smith’s Bible Dictionary Complete Concordance is a classic reference work rooted in Protestant scholarship and based largely on older English Bible translations. While it can be helpful for general information about biblical people, places, and historical context, it does not reflect specifically Catholic teaching or interpretation and may omit or treat differently certain books of the Catholic canon. Readers are encouraged to use it alongside Catholic texts for a fuller understanding of show more Scripture. show less
Oh yes. This is what the world has been waiting for. I wish I'd had this while struggling through interminable Bradley's Arnold prose comp. exercises twenty years ago. And I wish the hardcover version hadn't been unavailable when I ordered mine, because this is the kind of thing I'd really like to have on hand in something sturdier than a paperback edition.

Nonetheless, thanks are due to Bolchazy-Carducci for making this invaluable reference work available.
This has been a favorite reference for years - when I want to know more about a place or word in the Bible. Having grown fond of Smith's Bible Dictionary, I now continue to use an electronic version that is available in the Pocket Sword app.
