Primus St. John

While I enjoyed Primus St. John's language throughout this collection, I often felt that the meaning got lost or put aside in favor of language play and rhythm. Thus, while I enjoyed much of the poetry, I found it at times to be puzzling or frustrating as well. There were also few poems that will likely draw me back here---much of it was enjoyable, but nothing so powerful or striking as to draw me back repeatedly, which for me is the mark of a really good poetry collection. His work is show more consistent though throughout the collection, so I believe a reader who likes some of his works encountered here or elsewhere is likely to truly enjoy the full work. show less
