Paul C. Ruggiers has composed a handy reference to the city that was so central to European civilization as a whole. The Tuscan capital's historical summary is not very well mapped but the degree of detail compensates somewhat. A sort exploration is made of both Petrarch and Dante's lives in their urban setting.
