Beautifully done, this is mostly set on a deserted island, save for 11-year-old Nim and her marine scientist father. A side story involves a novel and an adventure hero.

Abigail Breslin is perfect as the courageous, intelligent and thoroughly likeable Nim. While some of the scenes are exaggerated or surreal, we didn't really notice that while watching. We were totally caught up in the action.

Definitely recommended, for adults or children (other than the very youngest).

Little Kid Reaction: Review pending.

Big Kid Reaction: The family dynamics are spot on, and the story moves fast with plenty of day-in-the-life humor. What makes the story particularly fun is the way that many of the misconceptions — often dropped into the story by Maddy — unravel. Upon arriving in Paris, the Hitchcocks unwittingly land in the middle of an international police investigation. The best part of the story is that not only do you learn more about the characters, you see that show more they learn about themselves and each other, too!

A pretty cute adaptation of the Madeline books. I've only read 1 or 2 of the books so I enjoyed this movie on its own merit.
Professor Trevor Anderson receives his teenager nephew Sean Anderson. He will spend ten days with his uncle while his mother, Elizabeth, prepares to move to Canada. She gives a box to Trevor that belonged to his missing brother, Max, and Trevor finds a book with references to the last journey of his brother. He decides to follow the steps of Max with Sean and they travel to Iceland, where they meet the guide Hannah Ásgeirsson. While climbing a mountain, there is a thunderstorm and they show more protect themselves in a cave. However, a lightening collapses the entrance and the trio is trapped in the cave. They seek an exit and falls in a hole, discovering a lost world in the center of the Earth. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil show less
