Reviews
A useful introduction to the ancient Greek comedy writer Aristophanes (5th century BCE). James Robson (classicist at the Open University UK) discusses just about all relevant aspects. I found his analysis of the types of humor Aristophanes used particularly interesting, illustrated, incidentally, with a great many text excerpts. I am not a huge fan of those ancient comedies myself (nor of the Roman ones), but they are an integral part of the classical heritage, so they are best taken show more seriously (pun intended). show less
