Jürgen Lodemann

Can't believe I missed this at my bookclub! Tracked it down second hand. Gorgeous tome, a re-telling of the Siegfried saga you've never seen the like. A very different look at this german national myth. You feel like you are actually there, watching the Netherlanders and Burgundians battling it out. Lodemann also wrote a wealth of footnotes into this, never seen as many in a novel! The typeface and illustrations are beautiful, as is to be expected with Büchergilde Gutenberg (the show more illustrator, Erhard Göttlicher, also slipped in a few references to living persons, that made me laugh out loud!).
The Siegfried saga always seemed pompous to me, now, for the first time I have the feeling that I understand what it is about.
