I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's not knee-slapping funny, but it's funny all the way through, especially the snappy one-liners. Toonopolis:Gemini is a mystery/adventure that takes place in a cartoon world. If you have ever watched a cartoon, you'll enjoy this book, although if you haven't watched cartoons in the last few years, there may be some references that aren't as funny because you won't recognize them. (After tripping over a pineapple show more while walking underwater, a puzzled character asks, "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?")
I loved the characters and they were detailed enough(though two-dimensional) that I actually cared about what happened to them, and it was a very well-developed story. My favorite character was Jimbob the Talking Eggplant. I totally need a snarky eggplant sidekick. show less

Sometimes you read books by indie authors that make you wonder why no literary agents have picked this particular book for representation. I don’t know, Jeremy, if you tried to go the traditional publishing path or not. Toonopolis is one of those books that are original, creative, funny, smart and well-written. It is one of those books that when you are done with the last page, you wonder what agents are really looking for (sparkly vampires perhaps?) if books like Toonopolis get show more overlooked.
But let me start from the beginning…
I was more than skeptical when I opened the first page of Jeremy Rodden’s Toonopolis. The description said that the story was about a cartoon world. Seriously, I thought? I did not want to read a book about a cartoon world. It is sooo not my cup of tea.
Why I loved it...

This was a rather uneven read. The concept was very original and it actually read like a series of Saturday morning cartoon episodes, which was fun. It was also filled with puns and other jokes that left me chuckling, but also left me wondering if the younger readers for which this was intended would get it. And then there were some plot points that seemed to take giant leaps that I couldn't follow. The twist at the end was great, though. However, as this is the first in the Toonopolis show more Files, I am not really sure where the next book would go given the ending. show less
Review on cabingoddess.com my son however gave it four moose droppings, which is REALLY GOOD. I loved it and I ended up hosting an 11 year old on the blog and also a recipe too! THANKS!
