I thought this was a great book for a couple reasons. The message of the book is to teach the readers about life under the sea. The first thing I liked about the book was its use of pictures. The pictures in the book served as crucial text features that are designed to help readers grasp a new concept that may be hard to picture without a visual aid. For instance, the book explains that, “If the ocean were drained of its water, we’d see steep drop-offs, like cliffs,” which is shown in show more a picture to help the reader understand the concept. I also really liked the writing style in this book. Although the book itself is lengthy with a lot of words on each page, the writing is simplistic, which makes it an easier read than it first appears. For instance, one sentence in the text says, “The abyss is the deepest part of the sea. It is completely dark and very cold.” I thought that these simple sentences make the book more enjoyable to read because I could follow along. show less
