For me the story started in a quite boring way, but developed nicely to the end. Interesting idea about the solution to the problem the husband had with his wife, nontraditional and a bit New-Age-like.
Good storytelling especially through the written interaction of the characters, a bit stretched in the way that it might actually benefit from being made smaller, just to bring all be best things out. On my opinion, good ending, lively dialogues, interesting twist. Good and fast read, if you show more up to some inner-torment from the main character. show less

When John's wife is unhappy about the state of their home, he decides that perhaps a little memory adjustment might be in order. He figures what harm can it do. Unfortunately, he was not prepared for the outcome.

Harmless Adjustment is a fast and easy read. I enjoyed it although I kinda figured that there was a much easier and less drastic solution to the problems John and his wife were having. Still, it's a fun little story and a great way to while away an hour or two.

As with all good short stories, I wish this were a full length novel because there was so much potential here for excitement that didn't have to be left up to the imagination. I loved the premise for this short story, and the characters and mystery and suspense played out so well... I just wish there were more.

While it is clear that Kerry Kinlan makes a valiant attempt to write a convincing, interesting, and suspenseful story, she falls just short of the mark. Kinlan tries to build a suspenseful story around the concept of a husband, John, paying to have his wife's, Natalie, memory wiped clean of three "bad" years and a few days. Her plot is based on story details that are never fully explained--or revealed in some cases. What is explicated ends up a flimsy, poorly constructed story that has as show more many "holes" in it as Natalie's memory. It is clear that Kinlan wishes the concept of the messy "trash heap" house in which they live, along with the unfinished house that they move into, as a metaphor, but it fails to fully draw the reader in because it is never clearly connected with the reasons for Natalie's neurotic behaviors and feelings. In the end, most readers would agree with Natalie when she says that the "big green thing" needs to go--in fact, most readers would add this story to the garbage bag. show less
