This work is a compilation of personal essays about twelve step programs, which address addictions, most commonly to alcohol, drugs and over-eating. Due to the anonymous nature of these programs, only first names are used to identify these Unitarian Universalist writers. They acknowledge that "...the overt God language of AA..." is difficult for some UUs and that there are other successful recovery programs that do not rely on a "Higher Power". However, the people whose heartfelt experiences show more are related in this work found help with Alcoholics Anonymous, including the editors, who are Unitarian Universalist ministers. show less
