- Short biography
- Born in 1928 and coming from an old Calvinist family, Tamás Magay was a promising humanities student at the Eötvös József College in Kaposvár from 1946 to 1947, from where he was swept away by the first “purge wave”. He then spent three years in Scotland, then studied theology at the predecessor of today's Faculty of Theology of the Károli Gáspár Reformed University. Here he obtained his Reformed pastor's certificate in 1955.
After obtaining his theological qualification, Tamás Magay joined the dictionary editing work of the Akadémiai Kiadó in 1957, initially as László Országh's assistant, then as his right-hand man and equal creative partner. He edited 42 dictionaries at the Publisher, the total number of pages of which, according to the publisher's surveys, reaches 30,000 pages.
In addition to his PhD and Dr. Habil degrees, Professor Magay is the recipient of numerous national and international awards. - Nationality
