Battle Scars is about a young soldiers fight against cancer, specifically advanced testicular cancer, followed by benign tumours, followed by deep vein thrombosis, followed by a benign tumour turning malignant.

He obviously survives all that to then write this book.

It's a good but I also found it rather depressing, which is the very thing the author noted feeling when he read Lance Armstrong's cancer memoir. I'm not entirely sure this would be a great idea to read going into the beginning of show more a health crisis however I can see it being useful for those already in the midst and know how bad things are.

It was also interesting to read of the authors personal development from 25 to 31 and experiences with alternative medicine in the midst of fighting for his life.
