Crime scene photographer, Sara Covington has hidden her gift for ten years since running away from CASI where her life had been a living hell. The recent series of murders has left her reeling because they seem to be dragging her back into her past. Detective Brian Roney sees something in Sara that everyone else has missed, and he is determined to use her expertise to help him catch what could be a budding serial killer. While their attraction to one another is impossible to ignore, Brian's show more best friend, Detective Monica Foudy doesn't trust Sara and isn't sure she should even be on this case.

Behind Blue Eyes is the beginning of a series about CASI - The Colorado Academy for Superior Intellect. The paranormal aspects of this book are handled pretty well, not making any character sound like a superhero or supervillain. The characters are mostly likable, but since the story is told in first person from Sara's POV, the other characters are left underdeveloped. Also, the time jump in each chapter from "Before" to "Now" is a bit jarring, but the reasoning behind it becomes clear as the narrative moves forward. Once the plot moves beyond the initial set up, it becomes a little over the top by the end. Overall, however, Behind Blue Eyes is a solid romantic suspense novel with paranormal elements.

I am a huge fan of romantic suspense novels, as such when I read the synopsis for SHOOT TO THRILL, I was compelled to give it a try. Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting into the story. Even after completing the book, I am not sure why I stuck with it. This is not to say that it was necessarily a bad book. I am sure there are readers out there who would be thrilled by the story, but I felt no connection whatsoever. It did not grab me the way I was hoping it would.

SHOOT TO THRILL is the show more second book in the CASI series. I did not have the opportunity to read book one, nevertheless, it did not hinder me from reading this installment. SHOOT TO THRILL can be read as a stand-alone.

In this installment, we meet Arin Thomas and Jonah Summers. Arin was a successful stockbroker who became an FBI agent. Her reasons for becoming an agent was based primarily on her need to avenge her sister's death. After several years working with the FBI, she was considered to be an expert in solving cold cases. In the process of starting her vacation leave, she received an anonymous tip about her former partner. This tipster was suggesting that her partner's death did not happen the way it was reported. Being the tenacious person that she is, Arin was determined to see if there was any merit to the information received. In her quest to find the truth, she meets Jonah Summers.

Jonah is not your typical guy. He is a psychiatrist with extra-sensory abilities. He teams up with Arin to uncover the truth as it appears that there may be some truth to the anonymous tip.

Arin and Jonah found themselves on dangerous territory. Russian assassins with extra-sensory abilities similar to that of the students at CASI. It would appear that they had both bitten off more than they can chew.

There was some amount of mystery, however, there were some aspects that I thought were lacking. It would have been good to know who the anonymous tipster was and why he/she wanted Arin involved. Furthermore, what his/her motive for providing this tip. This is a suspense novel, but, unfortunately, I did not get that edge of your seat feeling. I was not compelled to keep turning the pages in that regard.

Josh and Erin are supposed to have developed an attraction for each other, but I was unable to feel it. I did not find it credible. The length of time which it took them to fall in love with all the drama that surrounded them did not resonate with me. How did they find time for those types of feelings to develop? The emotional connection between them was lacking.

The story moved between the past and the present in relation to Arin. The synopsis of her past provided me insight into her true nature. She is a survivor. She did not allow the mistakes and hurts of the past to hold her back, instead, she rose above them.

To conclude, SHOOT TO THRILL was not one of my favourite reads. It was ok, but not suited to my tastes. -

This is a short book, but per the author that is what the publisher wanted. I generally don't give novellas novella more then 3 stars, but this was a very touching and positive little read - I would have loved for it to be longer.
Its the story of an older women and younger man, a story about finding love, finding yourself, and accepting that life can be good when change threatens all that you have known.
The lead character Cassidy and Scott were likeable, and had enough development to make show more the story work.
The erotic side of the story was more via feelings and innuendo, as the sex was complementary to the story line, not in your face, crude or crass. I was very happy how Scott found himself, his purpose in this story, he didn't give up, and how supportive Cassi was to this end as well.
Long story short Cassidy and Scott helped each other, and both grew as a result of their meeting.

I was given this book by the author as an ARC for an honest review

This was one of those free downloads from Kindle that you have no really idea of whether you will read it or when. Luckily one of my book club reading groups has a fireman story category and this fit right in.

It is shorter than I would've liked but good for an erotic paranormal romance. I thought there was enough of an attraction and romance built for the sex to be steamy. The story line, although short and not well developed, was enough to make it interesting. I think the story line may be show more further developed in subsequent short stories. Currently there are 3 more at a little over 80 pages a piece. I'm glad I read it as I enjoyed it and will problem continue with the next ones in the series. show less
