Nigel Walter provides us with an important set of insights in a much-neglected topic. We are shaped by our buildings, so to learn the language of space and history, and to have an idea how we can shape our inherited buildings again, is an important task for a church leader.
He packs a lot of thinking into a short space: there's definitely a much longer book here wanting to emerge. And with Grove's very tight limits on space, this has meant for no useful illustrations of his points. I'd love show more to see a companion document on the Grove website where he could include a few photos and plans of the buildings he refers to.
That said, this will no doubt be still a good advert for Walter's architecture practice, which focusses mainly on churches. show less
