The Black Practice of Disbelief: An Introduction to the Principles, History, and Communities of Black Nonbelievers by Anthony Pinn
This is a challenging book that gives a white person such as myself some better insight into what it is like to be Black and a humanist; the traditional role of the Black Church in the lives of Black people; and some insight into myself as a non-theist/humanist member of the Universal Unitarian Church.
Pinn’s work is a satisfying assemblage on the narrative history of humanism in the African American community. Luminaries and the laity are given equal footing to present the case for humanism as path to liberation for African Americans.
