Is something fishy at play with this book and its dustjacket? The bound volume has no number on the spine but the dustjacket is marked with number 5. I think someone has been jollying up their collection with the best possible dustjacket they could find. The dustjacket cover gives the price as 5 bob.,

More jiggery pokery with dustjackets. Some nefarious collector has clothed this 1950s edition with a much earlier dustjacket that carries the words 'of the British Isles' after the title. It is a murky world, the world of Observer books.

This is an early 1938 reprint of the very first edition but wrapped in a later dustjacket entitled 'The observer's book of butterflies' from which the word British has been dropped. This must be a case of some unscrupulous person trying to sell an early version supposedly with the original dustjacket.

Has a nice coloured dustjacket cover, quite an early one.
