Well I learnt a new word today: Vexillology. Vexillologist I am not, but this is one of the favorite books of my childhood - bought when I was six.
The observer's book of British geology: Describing the principal rocks, minerals and fossils (Observer's pocket series) by I. O. Evans
This reprint from 1950 has the attractive black and white image on the dust jacket, some lettering in green.
