The World Encyclopedia of Flags: An Illustrated Guide to International Flags, Banners, Standards and Ensigns by Alfred Znamierowski
In my Year of COVID I decided to memorize all the flags of the world. Starting was slow going but I'm presently up to over one hundred and I still very much enjoy this quirky new hobby.
The The World Encyclopedia of Flags is a companion book I purchased for a deeper dive into the colorful world of vexillology. The thing I most wanted from this book, in addition to all the gorgeous flags, was a contextual and historical summary of why a flag is the way it is. This encyclopedia has a that and show more so much more. I love it! show less

The World Encyclopedia of Flags & Heraldry: An international history of heraldry and its contemporary uses together with the definitive guide to national ... artworks of arms, shields, civic and by Alfred Znamierowski
This volume is actually just a combination of two previously published volumes by two different authors--one on heraldry, obviously, the other on vexillology (world flags). The information in the two separate books is very useful, however, and they are both excellent resources. Owning the combined volume has one particular advantage--when it was published, it was updated to reflect the latest world flags. Considering how often the geopolitical scene shifts these days, though, it may already show more no longer be accurate at the time of writing this review. show less
This is a great book on flags of the world. The color images are accompanied by explanatory notes. The flags are grouped by geographical regions.
