Entanglednow has fast become a five star Sterek author for me. By Any Other Name, much like the author’s other works, is relationship centric with any subplot primarily in the backseat while the relationship drives the story. Derek and Stiles are much more grounded in this author’s works than other Sterek’s I’ve read and possess much more depth than other fandom authors, as well as their MTV creators, usually spend on them. Entanglednow’s Stereks portray interpersonal relationship show more exceptionally and are well written, as is this one. All that I have come to expect from this author is delivered consistently in their works, and By Any Other Name is not an exception.

On to this specific fan fiction … Derek and Stiles are on the run, hunting witches and have amnesia. This one almost didn’t make my TBR from it’s synopsis. I was worried that the “have amnesia” aspect would be hard to pull off without making it silly. But I shouldn’t have doubted Entanglednow’s imagination. What the amnesia aspect did was allow Derek and Stiles to fall in love with out the hold backs that are their tragedy ridden lives and their often adversarial camaraderie . The amnesia parked the mounds of baggage these two would bring to any relationship on the curb and allowed their intrinsic personalities to drive off together. Some readers may hate this aspect, because removing their past did remove a lot of the tension, but what it also did was allow them to simply be them. It allowed there personalities to be free of their past, making the story read like an AU fan fiction set with in a canon fan fiction. I enjoyed all the assumptions they made about themselves - who they must be and what their relationship is - and how confident they were in their estimations - giving a purity to their love that no matter their circumstances - to them the obvious conclusion was to be together. This “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” aspect is carried through the majority of the story and I did enjoy the sweet ride, even as it came to a halt when their memories are returned. The subplot is rather anti-climatic and more of a device to keep the two occupied, while the majority of the tension pulls taut at the ending, when they must face the reality of reconciling who they have been, who they thought they were and who they want to be.

My only complaint is I could have appreciated a longer ending - more of an exploration of how the sheriff and their friends would react to their relationship. But, none-the-less, this is one of my favorites. Derek and Stiles loving freely without the burden of their pasts and still loving even when their memories crash the party. show less

With the effortless awkwardness of conversations reminiscent of a Wes Anderson movie and inner monologues too honest and uncomfortably relatable, Entanglednow depicts Davis's characters budding romance with a realistic ease, simple and complex in the same breath.

Stiles and Derek are too interesting of characters for a MTV drama to host so they couldn't possibly be bothered to even explore them more, and unfortunately, it is a travesty that Davis has let them languish the past couple of show more seasons (as he has done with the plot the show once had). But for some reason with fan fictions like this one, I am stuck captivated to these characters and this 'ship.

Written in twelve installments - two from Derek (and a well portrayed Derek at that) and ten from Stiles, each work is well written and an easy read. This work sneaks up on you at first, seemingly innocuous … until you are laughing with them, crying for them and triggered to reflect on your own dating nightmares and successful loves by them.

There is no action subplot and the focus of each installment is solely on an exchange or encounter between Derek and Stiles that nudges their relationship forward. Their actions and words all make sense for these characters as uncomfortable and sometimes unfortunate as that may be at times. I felt this to be true especially for Derek. And I know that for all that we would like to keep Davis’s polished MTV teen marketable bad boy image of him in our heads, that the fact of the matter is that a fifteen year old boy who was manipulated into having an affair with a far older woman who would later burn his entire family to death, is going to be much more wounded - than is fit for MTV’s angsty underwear model projection of him.

Entanglednow weaves their attraction from its initial awkwardness, to its giddy stomach butterflies, the excitement of first love and the disappointment of how mundane that can be at times. The harsh realities of what it means to really know someone and love them all the same and the discovery of the rewards for staying during times you would rather leave. To the realization that lusting for someone lies in the shadow of understanding them and is just as fulfilling all the same. The moment you willingly accept the simple joy sharing a milkshake provides and how such a luxury can ease the pain a single matchstick can cause.

Milkshakes and Matchsticks will not be everyone’s Sterek. There are far sexier Sterek’s. Far glossier ones. Ones where Stiles is so appealingly awkward and Derek is everything you projected him to be. But when you want the laughs to be real, the cries to be heartfelt and the depth to be too honest, this is your Sterek. This is the Sterek that gets real for a lanky, hyperactive teenager and his emotionally victimized werewolf.

And Entanglednow is now one of my favorite Sterek authors. I would give this more than five stars. Does anyone know if "Entanglednow" is a pen name for a published author. The writing is pretty exceptional to be amateur. More thoughts to come once I absorb what I read a bit more. show less

Hot damn! Here is what you need to know:

Stiles must swoop in to save the packs' (in particular, Derek's) ass all the time. You think he ever gets thanked for it? Nope. No "Thank you's". Derek finally decides to thank him ... but Derek isn't good with words - despite being good with his mouth. Stiles is standing around in a Sheriff's uniform and Derek is in handcuffs ... on his knees. Enjoy! (and you're welcome. ;))

This I found to be probably the HOTTEST of Entanglednow's quick stories. Derek and Stiles (unwillingly/willingly) do a strip tease little thing for Danny. At first I wasn’t so sure about the beginning, where it was going, then Derek begins to strip and the tension and steaminess explode. There was a sweetness to it as well. Seriously this is what should have happened when Danny went over to Stiles' and Derek (aka Miguel) was there. You could cut the tension in the room with a knife it is show more so thick between them. show less
