Polyamory In Romance. This is Really Good! How do I know? I am polyam! Have been for decades, same two paramours, same metamours. Plus I've met many ethical non-monogamous people over the years. Alexander has created a great fantasy in this series, built of huge families and different challenges, a higher than average incidence of non-straight males, and adventurous women. Of course some are polyam. I'm only a little sad they're always triads and never Vs like my own romantic life. I get show more why. IRL the V structure's more common. But Romance loves its triads because threesomes are fun to write. Plus, that third person's where realizations beyond a dyad begin. It's hard to make a choice you don't know you have.
I loved what tripped them up and how they worked their ways around all the roadblocks. None of them is stupid, they all grok how critical communication is but ooh emotions! And interruptions! The moments of heroism are SO GOOD.
(The Kindle version could've used a line edit. That's the only flaw.) show less

This was a fun re-read as I'd forgotten a few things in four years. And how dare past me not have reviewed it the first time! Honestly. *I* am polyamorous, you'd think I would have. Anyway, I love that the only girl Finn got to be the weirdest one, yay Jen. Trick is a marvelous character, I've liked him all through the series. Declan is intense--and the reason for it is one of the aha moments. It's a good story within this series, there's just enough reference to past events that you could show more read it by itself perfectly well.
Part of the fun for me is seeing these people from new points of view. R.G. Alexander is very good at it! show less

HOLY FUCK! That is what I kept saying (quite loudly) out loud throughout this. You should have seen how wide my eyes were, how my mouth hung open nearly the entire time, and how caught up I was in this sweet, sexy af, beautifully hot ride. And all the laughs! Jeez, JD was absolutely hilarious from right off the bat! Knew then and there that this was going to be golden.
And Green's Marine! If I could pick (haha, autocorrect changed that to "lick"--guess that's also true) just one MC to be my show more real life man, hands down I now who it would be.
One of the hottest books I have ever read. Nothing was dragged out or extraneous. I actually totally could have read more as nothing (read: the sex) was repetitive or boring in the least. This was amazing. Makes me want to read the Finn series now, too. Hmmm. Dayyymmmnnnnn. I still can't believe how this made me feel.
Oh god, I don't even know what else to say, that story was perfect. show less

A book I honestly did not expect to like turned out to be a real pleasure. I don't generally enjoy the paranormal or the gothic, especially in romance, and this book steeped in New Orleans history and Voodoo delivered a lot of both. I am not sure how it ended up on my shelf, but my guess is a long ago library $5 bag sale day, a day that for me often looks like that old show where people had to race through the supermarket, winning if their basket was the priciest. For years I travelled show more internationally on business, and the packing skills I developed were transferable to library sales -- you cannot imagine how many books can fit in a paper grocery bag if one arranges them strategically. Anyhooo....this was on the shelf for years and I decided it was time to do some shelf-clearing and the main appeal of this book was I thought it would be a DNF so the shelf clearing would be quicker. I was wrong.
The book consists of 3 novellas based around one NO urban family and another 19th century version of same who have ended up in new bodies, with various powers and complicated lives of their own, let alone the complicated lives of their ancestors. Also there is a lot of really good sex and a fair it of overwrought romantic love as well.) There is a fascinating but not central theme around how race impacts Creole families internally, about how visible characteristics like melanin and hair texture and the width of noses or chins or bottoms lead to very different lives even for children within the same families. This is well written too. I was engaged with all the stories. It took me a long time to read only because i put it down between novellas, but I was totally invested when reading it. This surprised me in a good way. show less
