Baylee Jean Brown has been ignoring Jimmie Joe Johnson for the last ten years. He's too much of a hound dog. That changes when she finds out it's because of her aunt, one of a long line of witches, who has threatened him to put his balls in a jar on her window sill. So now she's determined to make Jimmie Joe change his ways, using a book on how to train a hound dog (actual dog).
This book had some promise. I thought the premise was funny and I might enjoy the story. The characters are bigger show more than life, sometimes a little too much so that they are caricatures. Every woman has huge breasts and every man has a huge cock-a-doodle-doo.
Parts of it was funny (and raunchy), but the book is so repetitive and over-written. A joke is funny the first time - maybe a few times after that - but here we get the same ones over and over throughout the book. Jimmie Joe's cock-a-doodle-do, her sister Randi Lynn's lack of diddling, and so on are mentioned routinely with every mention of their name. I found it just too much and it took away from enjoyment of the story. Sometimes less is more. show less

Jimmie Joe Johnson: Manwhore by Lindsey Brookes
I must not have a very good sense of humor because according to author C. L. Wilson this was – “"The most hilarious book I've read in years--maybe ever! --C.L. Wilson”” - and I just don’t see it.
If you find a woman lusting after a man who bets that he cannot have sex for 24 hours and losses that bet after 3 minutes funny. If you find it funny to see a woman who has so little respect for herself that she doesn’t care that he has show more ‘had’ every woman (or nearly so) in town and is looking to make it to a Vegas pool tourney so he can get some new bootie funny, then you are going to love this book.
The idea that Baylee Jean could retrain Jimmie Joe using her knowledge as a dog groomer and a book she has on training ‘bad’ dogs, initially sounded fairly funny, but this book quickly became tedious with the authors over use of certain words- like the word “diddle” in all of its forms. Sometimes that word would be on a page two or three times and quickly lost its humorous connotation for me.
The plot device is that the characters are thinking about sex, having sex (at least Jimmie Joe is) and discussing sex, scheming about having sex. I’m no prude, I love erotica in most of its forms, but this was neither erotic nor even a little bit sexy.
Granted, I did NOT expect all that much from this novel, especially when you consider the title and the synopsis. I figured I was going to get a very light comedic read with a male character who is much like we see in a lot of romances- a man that does have a lot of one night stands, who does not want to commit, someone who is very conflicted etc. I had hoped to read about a female lead who respected herself. However, this went further. “Manwhore” being used in the title was quite apt since he did almost anything a regular prostitute does except to take cash. He did take sex for payment on tires once though!
I really, really wish I could have finished this book 100%, but I was unable to. ( I feel that you don’t need to eat an entire fish fillet to know when it is ‘bad’ and the same goes for books) I know I should have downloaded a sample, especially of a book that had no other reviews to guide me. And I am now kicking myself for this lack of foresight. I suggest very strongly that if you want to read this book, please try a sample first. It really may be me and I lack the thing that would allow me to see this novel as humorous.
I am looking forward to see what other reviewers think about this ‘different’ book. show less

Humorous -- it will keep you grinning, and will have you laugh out loud about a feather duster wielding maid. Totally predictable -- which makes this a ridiculously easy read and possibly not what you're looking for, BUT it's also a very fun comfortable read. Fun because the characters have a great playful repartee. Comfortable because the characters are down to Earth.
I received this audiobook from the narrator through a Goodreads request for reviewers. This is the kind of entertaining book show more that makes you so glad you stumbled upon a good listen and you're happy to submit a review. Karen White, the narrator, did a great job with the narration -- her pace, her intonations, changing her voice for the various characters. She has a great voice for the shy, hesitant female character and also did well with the male main character. The only drawback, in my mind, would be that Ms White gave the female main character tension-filled mid-sentence hesitations throughout the entire book, even during scenes that weren't particularly tension-filled and didn't seem to call for the character(s) to sound as if they are trying to choose their words oh, so, very carefully. This vocal hesitation was perfect in other scenes, just not throughout the entire.
If I have nothing but good things to say, why do I give this book only three stars... it is clear that not every good story that entertains and makes the time pass quickly is a five-star book. This is a good book. A good story with good characters. I enjoyed my time with this story. Unfortunately, it is not particularly moving. It is very predictable, not original, intriguing, surprising or profound. Sometimes (plain) vanilla is just the perfect taste you need.
If you are reading this review and if you can imagine a time between your other reads when you would like light, fun and funny, keep this book in mind. An easy listen when traveling or commuting, when waiting in the carpool line, when walking.... anytime! show less

I really enjoyed this book. It's got the usual plot lines of a romance: attracted to each other but fighting it, get together, misunderstanding and fight, and then a happy end. So were there many surprises? No not really. I still really enjoyed the book. I know what to expect from a romance novel and this one delivered. Smart dialogue, some fun twists, well developed characters.
I recommend this book as a breezy, fun, well written and thoroughly enjoyable read
