Jean-Claude Fournier takes over Spirou et Fantasio, and doesn't do too well. Never mind that his style clashes badly with Franquin's (who is still drawing the character of Marsupilami for this book — Fournier's considerably softer style wouldn't have done the long-tailed fellow justice); the actual plot, revolving around medieval alchemist Nicholas Flamel's book on how to make gold, is confused and boring.

Fournier made a couple of the best Spirou and Fantasio adventures (L'Ankou and Tora show more Torapa), but also some of the very worst, like Du Cidre pour les Étoiles and this clunker. (Admittedly, however bad it gets, they're still better than the three episodes by Nic Broca and Raoul Cauvin.)

I also note that the French edition has two short adventures that are not included in this Swedish translation, so I'm not reviewing those.

I'm with Spip on this. Why are the bad guys always so incompetent? They're not terrifying at all, and by comparison, thwarting their plans isn't very inpressive.
