I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review. I'd have liked to enjoy it and write a nice review but I can't honestly give a 5 star review for a 2 star book.

So, having sort of enjoyed book one which set the scene for the series I thought book two would pick up the pace and excitement but sadly I was disappointed.

While this is A shape-shifter/urban fantasy book I must assume it's intended show more for the YA market as the writing is quite juvenile in many places and is very repetitive throughout the book. To add to that, in the audiobook version there are about a dozen places where the same sentence is repeated as though the playback has skipped back a few seconds, obviously poor production or editing.

There are a few inconsistencies that had me a little confused. Without trying to give spoilers someone has an issue and needs the help of two other characters who won't be visiting for two days. Two weeks later the same person still needs help but apparently hasn't met or been visited by the two characters, and yet as the danger progresses both of the two characters turn out to be only a quick phone call away and arrive quickly. Confused? Yep, so was I. It didn't make much sense.

The source of the "danger" became apparent to the powerful witches, shifters and everyone else towards the end of the book although it was blatantly obvious from much earlier on what the problem was. I mean seriously, it may as well been written in bright pink neon capitals it was so glaringly obvious.

About 90% of the book takes place in one bedroom or the in-between with almost nothing going on apart from the one thin thread of a storyline that was dragged out far longer than it needed to be. I was soon getting bored, knowing what the outcome would likely be and praying that they'd get on with it and move along. Oh, and there's almost no shifting involved in the entire book.

I also received books 3-5 from the author but I'm unlikely to bother reading them. The synopsis seems the same for each: Boy meets girl, one or other plays hard to get, causes problems which take a whole book to resolve and finally get together, blah, blah, blah. show less

This is an urban fantasy, Shifter novel with some explicit adult action. The story sets the scene for the rest of the series and introduces a number of characters. The dialogue is a little unrealistic in places especially when some people simply accept wild stories about shape-shifters, witches etc without too much trouble or disbelief.

That said, it was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to the next in the series. I'd rather like to read the extended epilogue but I feel that paying show more £4.55 just for an extended ending is a bit of a rip off and will not be buying it.

The narrator, Adelaide Skye, gives a good performance throughout.

You really feel for Kerrigan and Lorelei as both have people from the past not allowing them to move on and causing havoc in their lives to the point of Lorelei leaving town and Kerrigan hating himself. Now she is in danger and he needs to not only find her but keep her safe while they find out who is behind everything and there are some twists you don't see coming, heartbreak as well as new beginnings along with new friends to make and a good mix of Danger and a HEA.
