This apparently coffee-table book is actually a reasonably erudite examination of the history of war photographers on all sides in World War II. The author starts with a detailed examination of the lives and careers of various photographers, including Cecil Beaton and Robert Capa. There then follow a small selection (by comparison with the total number of pictures taken) of photographs from all theatres of war. Particularly notable are some compositions by Beaton taken during the war in the show more North African desert which verge on the abstract; and examples of the work of Soviet war photographers, previously little known to us. show less
It's a marvellous book for people who are curious about the process and motivations of Magnum photographers ... I love it, and am inspired each time I open it.
A huge book of photographers and their photos. And their stories. Covers the world. Impressive.
Zeer inspirerend voor iedere fotografie liefhebber! show less
