This is the story of Dr Abrahams a pancreatic specialist with a practice in Washington a few years after the Vietnam War. A former Vietnamese General dies in hospital with extremely low blood sugar levels. Ben Abrahams is called in to investigate and in the process meets various other survivors of Vietnam and is forced to confront some of his own memories.
His newly acquired girlfriend is one of these Vietnam survivors too. From this description it sounds quite a heavy book, but it's in show more actual fact a fairly ordinary thriller/whodunnit. As such it's an enjoyable read.
The one thing that really grated is that the author kept on planting very obvious pointers that something was not quite what was being presented. Lines like 'she smiled and I'd come to realise later what it meant'. show less
