In the first Immortals in New Orleans novel, human cop Sydney Willows is investigating the murder of a young woman in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, the woman appears to have been killed through supernatural means, so Syd’s case falls under P-CAP jurisdiction.
Kade Issacson is the vampire leader in New Orleans, but he goes to Philly to help his werewolf friend Tristan who believes there’s a rogue vampire in the city killing girls. Kade is working under the authority of P-CAP (the show more paranormal police force) and meets Sydney at the crime scene. Though the murder case is officially his, he’s intrigued by the feisty human and wants to work with her at solving the case.
Syd and Kade have an instant sexual connection, but Syd refuses to acknowledge it. She even sleeps with another man in an attempt to push Kade from her thoughts.
I couldn’t connect with Syd. She was abrasive, unprofessional, overly sexed up, and always had to act tough because she’s a female cop working in a primarily male environment. I don’t understand why she let people call her “Miss Willows” instead of “Detective Willows.” That didn’t seem to fit with her badass, take-no-bull cop persona.
I liked Kade for the most part. He’s an alpha hero but not overbearing. He was sexy, understanding, considerate, and accepting of Syd’s attitude problem. Even though he was very protective of Sydney, he also understood she needed to be involved in the investigation, so he was strong enough to step back despite the risk to her life.
I enjoyed the world building and that paranormal beings and humans are living peacefully side-by-side. The sex scenes are super hot and furthered the H/h’s romantic feelings toward one another. The minor characters are interesting and make great additions to the story.
Unfortunately, I had trouble getting into Ms. Grosso’s writing style. Everyone has preferences, and head-hopping is so not for me. I already have the second book in the series, so I’ll give it a try.

In the second Immortals in New Orleans novel, vampire Luca Macquarie has been kidnapped, chained with silver, and drained of blood. After Kade, Luca’s sire and best friend, saves his life, Luca is determined to fight the people responsible for nearly killing him. To do so, he has to track down a runaway witch.
Samantha wants nothing more than to return to her normal human life. In the previous book, she was kidnapped and horribly abused. The result of that abuse has given her special show more powers over the elements, which has basically transformed her into a witch. She shuns her new abilities, but when her life is threatened again, she has no choice but to trust Luca and learn to fight back.
I liked the book for the most, and I definitely connected better with Luca and Samantha than I did with the couple from the first book. Luca and Samantha are well-rounded characters with great chemistry. After a painful tragedy in Luca’s past, he’s locked his heart in a cage of ice, but Samantha’s spunk, strength, and vulnerability quickly thawed the ice. I love seeing cold, stoic men fall to their knees!
The world building is great. I totally like that vampires, witches, and werewolves are known to the world at large and live side-by-side with humans in relative peace, but they’re certainly having trouble with each other. Since Luca is a vampire and Samantha is a witch, the book focused more on the paranormal aspect of life and very little on the humans, which was nice.
The story is a little repetitive, however, with head hopping and more telling than showing. The sex scenes are erotic and very entertaining. Kade, Sydney, Tristan, and other characters from book 1 return, and it was nice seeing those characters again.

Kade Issacson the leader of the New Orleans vampires, is devastated when his fiancée Sydney is nearly killed by a demon and he has to turn her into a vampire. This book picks up after she is turned and the transition into something she never wanted to be has left her in a bad state unable to feed. Kade feels guilty having turned her knowing she didn't want it but unable to let her go.
A Psycho killer Sydney arrested with her partner Anthony, breaks out of prison on a mission to get revenge show more on her. Antony arrives to warn her and discovers the new but not improved Sydney. He agrees to help Kade in any way to try get Sydney to accept her new nature so she can feed while they also go on the hunt for the escaped psycho.
The Immortals on New Orleans is a favorite of mine. I started the series a while back and was hooked from book one which is why I was looking forward to finding out what was happening with Sydney and Kade.
It was nice going back to the couple who started it all and the author has a way of making you feel dirty (but in a good way) when reading her books. I always want to cover it up when someone walks past so prying eyes cant see what I'm reading. If you've read the books in this series you will know that there is a sort of formula when it comes to the sex scenes. I like couples to be just that. A couple. This author has a way of pushing that and making it work. I wasn't exactly thrilled with how some of the sex scenes panned out for one of the past couples but in the story they were wolves and that's how they roll. I'm not a prude but I am a bit of a romantic at heart so I was a bit worried when it came to Kade and Syd as I really loved them together but this worked well. It was steamy without leaving you feeling uncomfortable show less
