In book 4 of the Scanguard Vampries series, Yvette is the only female vampire in the Scanguards inner circle. Since all her friends and colleagues are men, she feels she has to always be tough and never show her feminine side, or she’ll lose her friends’ respect and her respect in herself. After a betrayal in her human life, it’s hard for her to express love, and she doesn’t think any man will want her for more than a quick lay.
Haven is a bounty hunter and vampire slayer. Though his show more mother was a witch, Haven and his two younger siblings didn’t inherit any of her power. After an evil witch kidnaps his brother Wesley, Haven has to do a job for the witch in order to free Wesley. The job? Kidnap a young actress and deliver her to the witch. Unfortunately for him, Yvette just happens to be the actress’s bodyguard.
Yvette and Haven both want each other, but as a vampire and as a hunter, they also hate each other. Even though Yvette is clearly the stronger of the two, the mutual respect between her and Haven is strong. He doesn’t treat her like a damsel or feel inferior to her, and she doesn’t treat him like a wimp. They think of each other as equals and work as a team.
The rest of the Scanguards play a large role in this book as in the previous ones. While Yvette and her unlikely allies fight on one front, her vampire friends fight on the other. When they all join forces, the final battle is awesome.
This book is much faster paced but shorter in word count/page length from the others I’ve read in the series. There are less sex scenes, but the scenes are still hot. It’s not often when a book surprises me, but I loved the twist at the end of this one. I’m always happy when I’m shocked in a good way.
The book is fairly well edited, so I was able to overlook a few stray typos.

Do not mistake A Scent of Greek with the traditional mythological tales we so loved in grade school.
Tina Folsom’s angle for Dionysus and the other Greek gods was sexy and uniquely provocative,
Ariana is the perfect scorned female with a half-baked plan to take revenge. Plagued by insecurities
and unwilling to admit what is right under their noses, the interplay between the two is enhanced
with glimpses of their internal voices, which adds to the amusement. A humorous and steamy story,
with show more plenty of dysfunction to make the characters even more real, this was a difficult book to put
down once I started. This is a fun, lighthearted and steamy romance sure to please.

Apparently, I have a new trigger. Slut shaming. Our heroine had this thought about a stripper hired for the hero's birthday party.
She glanced at the woman in the nurse's uniform. Disgusting! Her boobs looked fake, and so did just about everything else about her. She looked cheap, and Delilah was sure the woman wasn't just a stripper, but probably also a hooker. She could just about imagine what the tramp was hired to do.
She knows nothing about this woman or her circumstances. Since Delilah show more thinks the woman is a hooker, she is summarily dismissed as a tramp and I found that disgusting. I can't root for a heroine that thinks this way about other women. DNF'd at 7%. show less

Samson's Lovely Mortal
4 Stars
Synopsis:
Samson Woodford has two problems. First, he a vampire and second, he’s impotent. While there is nothing he can do for the first, he is determined to solve the second by visiting a psychiatrist. Nothing seems to work until the moment that Delilah Sheridan arrives on his doorstep wet, bedraggled and scared out of her wits because someone is following her. After sharing a night of passion, Samson finds it difficult to let his new found treasure go, show more especially since someone is obviously interested in killing her.
Review:
An engaging mix of romance, paranormal and suspense.
Yes, the main characters’ names are Samson and Delilah (corny, right?) but their personalities and back stories are, nevertheless, exceedingly well developed and interesting - I really liked the fact that the vampires have very human emotions and predicaments. Samson is completely charming and witty, and the way he copes with his performance problems contributes significantly to the humor in the story. Delilah is just as likeable with her own personal demons. She definitely knows what she wants and never allows herself to be dominated.
Folsom’s vampire world is not unique; it actually calls to mind Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breeds only it lacks the intricate detail of that series. The plot is not the most exciting but it is well paced and intelligent. It also involves compelling themes of greed, betrayal and vengeance. I did, however, have a couple of issues with it. First, the nature of the mystery and the identity of the villain are obvious from the outset, and second, the story would have been just as enjoyable without making the hero a vampire - human corporate types can be just as dangerous. Thus, the paranormal elements feel a bit contrived.
On a final note, while the opening line is seriously explicit, I did not find the sex scenes too excessive or overly graphic (despite the warning at the beginning of the book). It is nothing compared to the ACRO series.
All in all, I went in with few expectations and was pleasantly surprised. This book is a light and entertaining read and I will definitely read the next. show less
