This is a convincing book that lays out the case for Mark Felt's true motive as Deep Throat: his own personal advancement and interest in becoming the Director of the FBI. The book is convincing, although disappointingly so, because its description of events and motives fits so well with how Washington often works. It exposes failures of the narrative built up by certain reporters covering Watergate, and it highlights key omissions of their reporting and skepticism. To the extent the book show more sets more correctly the historical record, it is good, but it is hardly uplifting in its accurate reflection of the nature of Washington D.C. show less
