I really loved this title, even more than the Mr. Pusskins books! Doctor Meow and Ambulance Driver Woof save Tom Cat after he falls from a tree. It turns out that Tom Cat had been chasing Mr. Bird - bad Tom Cat, bad! But all ends well, with Tom Cat healing in the hospital and Mr. Bird visiting him.

The illustrations of Doctor Meow and Tom Cat are purrrfect, heh. The sweetly cartoony nature of the artwork combined with the vibrant primary colors really make the book visually arresting. In show more addition, the sort of naive kindess of all the characters towards each other is really endearing. A great book! show less
Reformed grouchy cat Mr. Pusskins returns in this second picture-book devoted to his adventures, now perfectly content in his life with his human companion Emily. But when a new kitten named Little Whiskers is introduced into the household, our feline hero isn't sure that the contentment can last. His initial misgivings seem justified, as Little Whiskers makes a nuisance of herself, even getting poor Mr. Pusskins exiled to the snowy yard for a crime he didn't commit. Fortunately, the show more pint-sized interloper isn't a bad kitty - just a mischievous one - and she finds a way to set things right.

I enjoyed this follow-up to the initial Mr. Pusskins: A Love Story - apparently there is also a range of Mr. Pusskins concept books available in the UK (Mr. Pusskins Colours, Mr. Pusskins Feelings, Mr. Pusskins Opposites), although they have not yet been published stateside - appreciating both the story and the colorful artwork. Younger children who are getting a new sibling will identify with Mr. Pusskin's mixed feelings about the addition to the family, and will sympathize with him throughout the period of adjustment. I agree with the friend who recommended this one, in that I think Emily's punishment of Mr. Pusskins was a bit much, but leaving that aside, Mr. Pusskins and Little Whiskers was a charming tale of (eventual) feline friendship. Recommended to all young cat lovers, especially those who enjoyed the initial Mr. Pusskins story.

Grouchy Mr. Pusskins has little patience for his human companion Emily's attempts to engage him in play, to cuddle with him, or to groom him. It's all so BORING!, he thinks, dreaming of a life of adventure out in the wide world. Slipping out one night, he runs away, intent on doing all the naughty but fun things he isn't supposed to. But when rain, cold and loneliness make themselves felt, he suddenly begins to miss his home and human. Can he find his way back to Emily? Will she still want show more him, if he does?

An engaging tale of a difficult kitty who discovers the value of love and affection, Mr. Pusskins: A Love Story is a picture-book that cat-lovers will appreciate. Although I did find the sequence of events a little muddled - it turns out that Mr. Pusskins has been gone for a significant amount of time, and has somehow wandered far away from his home, something not made clear in the pages leading up to the conclusion - I enjoyed the happy ending. The artwork is colorful and fun, capturing its feline hero's disgruntled expressions beautifully! All in all, a sweet little tale, one I would recommend to young cat-lovers, particularly those who must contend with a grumpy kitty.

For a book where the only words are colour words I feel that I'm having the lean put on me to love Mr. Pusskins a little too much and I'm getting sick of it. There are only so many hours in the day, and many, many times more cuddly fucking characters japing and gamboling and clamouring for your attention.
