Emma has been living alone in the woods with her timber wolf, keeping herself alive and safe from the infected with the survivalist skills her late father taught her and by entirely avoiding other people. When a teen comes to her cabin, asking for help for her brother, Emma knows this could compromise her safety, but she allows herself to get involved. Will she and her two new friends, Jake and Anna, be able to survive?
This is a free Kindle e-book I never would have come across without a show more friend's recommendation. It has some typos and grammatical issues (a period after a question mark, for example), and there were times where I could have used a little more of a transition from one part of the story to the other. I thought the romance angle weak, as our heroine rather quickly "falls in love" with no real development or exploration of those feelings. However, there's also some talent for spinning a fast-paced, compelling tale (I read it in practically one sitting and bought the next two as soon as I finished). Emma is a heroine much like Katniss or Tris who can stand on her own and doesn't need a knight in shining armor to save her; while it's not quite as good as either The Hunger Games or Divergent, fans of those series will find much to enjoy here as well. show less

What an amazing ride this book was. I read it too fast and when it was finished I regretted not taking longer to read it and savour it as it deserves to be savoured. It goes straight to my Faves shelf and I know I will be reading this book again and again.
I admit I didn't read the blurb before starting this book and I still haven't read it after finishing it. Sometimes I just like to start a book with a clean sheet, no expectations of any kind. But even without reading the blurb or any of show more the reviews I confess I was expecting a nice New Adult kind of book with some angst and a happy ending, the kind of book to fill in a lazy Saturday afternoon. I got so much more than that as this book just punched me right in the stomach, it wasn't what I expected it to be at all, it was dark and gritty and the characters are very real and so not perfect. Actually they are quite far from it.
Eli is not your typical alpha male and his actions throughout the whole book will give you mixed feelings and are not easy to justify even though sometimes the end does justifies the means. Emalyn has so many issues and is beyond broken and to learn more about how she became the way she has is a hard journey but one I enjoyed going through with her. These two will make you go on a wild, dark and sometimes not pretty ride.
I will leave it as this because this is one of those books that it's best to go into without any spoilers, it's an amazing book and deserves to be read without any preconceived ideas.
I saw that there is a book coming out in Eli's POV, I need me some more dark, sexy, domineering, broken Eli in my life! Can I have this book now please? I'll beg ;) show less

This book is about a high school senior that is dealing with a tragedy in her family. To make things worse, she’s always being overshadowed by her prettier, preppie twin sister. Aimee James is just an uber nerd that loves the chess club, and has never been kissed. Her world gets turned upside down when she goes to her first party, and almost dies because of it. Upon recovery, she faces tough decisions, tough losses, and through it all finds the man she will love for the rest of her life show more (however long she has left of it).
I really liked this book! I haven’t quite read a book that’s had so much of the writer’s personality in it. (Well, shall I say my personality?) It almost feels like I wrote it, her humor and style is very down to earth and easy to follow. I read the entire book within 6 hours, I couldn’t put it down. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars, because I loved the writing, but felt that the story line was slightly predictable. I will probably have the other books in this series read before the weekend is over. I would recommend this series, and I you can’t beat the price I paid for all three of them! This book blew me away! This was the biggest mind-fuck I have read in a long time! Nothing is as is seems. Things change throughout the entire book. I was lost but intrigued throughout this whole book.
The complexity of this story is from one with some serious talent for writing. To be able to string this story along to give you all of the twists and turns all of the way until the very end is pure inventiveness. I was locked into the weaves in this spell-binding story from start to show more finish.
No one is who they seem. Nothing is as it seems. Things go deeper that I could imagine. The plot moves around and around. I was on the edge of my seat and contemplating what was really going on all of the way through. I really was clueless, even more so than I thought, once I got to the end. I was shocked and full of awe.
I really don’t want to get into the plot at all. This is one of those books that you really can’t begin to explain without giving things away. Everything about this story is shocking. Everything about this story is an untold truth. I can tell you if you like thrillers, this is definitely a story for you. There are two more books in this series. The third one is due out in November. show less
