David Bird writes the monthly column “Bridge with the Abbot” for The American Contract Bridge League’s Bridge Bulletin. His Improve Your Bridge is a dandy little book that covers numerous topics an intermediate player should master in order to compete in tournament bridge or merely to improve his or her bridge game.
His explanations of plays such as dummy reversals and a forcing defense are crisp and lucid. He also explains common tournament conventions such as weak two bids, Michaels show more cue bids, and Roman Key Card Blackwood. Each chapter is followed by a short quiz meant to test the reader’s comprehension of the material just covered.
My one criticism is that the quizzes could be more extensive. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this book for intermediate players who wish to improve. show less
