Slade rivals Turtledove as a writer of alternative history. Unfortunately, he needs an editor badly. The punctuation is awful in spots, and there are too many grammatical errors. I don't think it's ignorance, just the pitfalls of doing your own proofreading.
Fortunately, the books read so well otherwise that they are still enjoyable. Slade knows a lot about aircraft, and his B-36 combat operations alone make up for the typos. There are many other interesting aviation 'facts', such as how the show more Beaufighter evolved into the Ostrich, and how it got that name. Also, the development of the Hindustan Hornet will amuse the aviation buff.
I hope that Slade gets picked up by a major publisher, so that I don't feel the urge to read his books with a red pencil in hand. show less
