This book is not inherently flawed - indeed I enjoyed it enough to keep reading without being tired of it - yet I was constantly struck by the naïveté of the author. Her simplistic view of conservative Christianity weakens the novel and the issues it addresses. It pits liberalism against Christianity over the issue of homosexuality. One overtly represents "good" while the other "bad," and at the same time both sides have a rather shallow concept of the politics the book discusses. Had the show more author waited a while to publish this book, growing as a writer and working with a stronger editor, this book certainly could have been improved significantly; as it was, with unrealistically simplistic characters and storyline, it was a decent read, though certainly nothing great. show less
I thought this book was a good love store of two young star-crossed lovers. (wink). It was easy to read to follow and was able to capture some real emotions of young lesbians in an area of conservative religion that is anti-gay. However, I think it could have gone more into some people who are Christian and who are pro-gay as well as those people do exist.
