- Texas to ConnecticutAlthea Ward Clark was the widow of novelist Howard G.B. Clark ’21. Her unrestricted 1994 bequest of $9 million to Princeton University was directed to purposes that reflect her interests in literature and nature. Her husband was honored through the creation of the Howard G. B. Clark ’21 University Professor in the Humanities.
The Audubon Center Bent of the River is currently comprised of 700 acres along the Pomperaug River. A rare 460 acre country estate bequeathed to the National Audubon Society by Althea Ward Clark, widow of Howard G. B. Clark, in 1993. Mrs. Clark had long been a leading force in local area conservation, and she left the Bent of the River estate to the Society. - Nationality
