At a time in my life, newly retired and starting my own cruising, I found this story of cruising the Eastern Caribbean hard to put down. Being a landlubber cruiser–motel to motel in our Toyota Prius–I couldn't help but feel a closeness to the life Charles and Leslie have maintained for the past 12 plus years, if only in my dreams. It was sort of sad when I closed the book (turned off my Kindle) because it was like my journey "down to the islands" was over, I was back on the 'dirt'. show more Charles painted pictures of places that in the past were only names in the news such as Antigua, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Grenadines. Then he filled my senses with new places such as St. Lucia, Bequia, Gustavia, and Basse-Terre, while toying with my appetite with numerous delectables, their favorites being Baguettes and pain au chocolat.
From port to port, bay to bay, anchorage to anchorage, island to island they sailed aboard Play Actor, a Baba 35' cruising boat. Inside this book I found myself part of their crew, leaning against the ocean breeze, wiping the salt from my brow, pointing out to my mate the dolphins playing tag, the whale blowing a passing hello, the rainbow of coral sliding below the keel. Thank you Charles and Leslie for taking me on your journey.
I've added a new item to my bucket list, to cruise the Eastern Caribbean, if only for a day. show less

Having enjoyed reading Dougherty's Dungda de Islan', the author's true accounting of his sailing adventures about the Eastern Caribbean, I was excited to get into his novel, Bluewater Killer. He did not disappoint. I found myself admiring his ability, and opportunity, to take what he loves and knows and weave it into a story of mystery and suspense, a thriller that would have me wanting to catch the next flight to Antigua so I could hitchhike aboard a cruising yacht in exchange for hosting show more the mainsail or polishing the brass. In real life I would hope I wouldn't get knocked over the head and thrown overboard, that my host wouldn't be mentally deranged, at least no more than I.
Bluewater Killer was definitely worth the read. I look forward to getting into the next novel in the series, Bluewater Vengeance, anxious to learn more about Dani. Is Mike dead or alive? show less

The third book in a lively series set in the Caribbean with two feisty women taking on all comers. This time the bad guys are Venezuelan terrorist that devise a plan to use zombies as suicide bombers. Good insights into the Voodoo rituals and traditions and nicely set in an exciting environment make this a worthwhile addition to this series.
Dani and Liz continue to find themselves in interesting but dangerous situations. After all, how could taking a college professor and his wife sailing be anything but a delightful tropical cruise? Enter the stalker, whose apparently random and brutal murders seem to be following them from island to island. His mistake is to mess with the Caribbean Terrors. Several intertwined mysteries must be unraveled before the ladies work it out; with a little help from their friends. Another good entry show more in this lively and entering series. show less
