Joel Shapiro (1941–2025)

Abstract

This project sought to create two new arrangements and two new compositions to add to
the Jewish choral music that is accessible for secondary choral ensembles. The four
choral pieces are tailored to fit the four concert cycles of the secondary school year; Fall,
Winter, Spring (March), and End-of-Year (May), being mindful of the Jewish holidays in
proximity to each concert cycle. One major goal was to create music that could be
performed for the many other important holidays in the show more Jewish faith, beyond Hanukkah.
An ancillary goal of the project was to strengthen the arranging and composing skills
needed to create new Jewish choral music. show less
