This is one of the best quality, most compelling books about Barack Obama's historic 2008 Presidential election that I have seen. The text is simple yet accurate; the photos are crisp, bright, and interesting. Although this book was written for "young readers," I truly believe that readers of any age will enjoy it. This book can be flipped through and returned to again and again as a reference, or read cover to cover. The slight Democratic slant ("bias") won't matter much to young readers, show more and it is consistent with the slant of the New York Times, which published this book. Students will enjoy reading fun facts and sound bites about their president (such as on page 68, for example). I think this book belongs on the shelf of any elementary or middle school library. show less
This is an overview of the road to Presidency Barack Obama took in getting to the White House. It's got lots of pictures of him and folks related to him in one way or another, the language is simple and explanatory, and it does a good job of educating kids on who he is and how he got the Presidency. I even learned a few things! Candidates and former presidents are presented well, without much in the way of slander or opinion on them- just simple facts.

TREE SHAKER is a very informative and colorful book written by Bill Keller, the Executive Editor of The New York Times. The entire book is written like one long article, broken up by chapters and festive with many colorful pictures.

It tells the story of Nelson Mandela's life -- from childhood to becoming the first black South African president -- and his impact on South Africa and the world.

This book was very informative; somewhat like a history textbook show more but with many colorful pictures and interesting story and dialogues in between the factual parts.

This book is highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn about the life of a man who impacted the world with his brilliance and determination for black equality among a white supremacist country.
