Two and a half stars. I'm a little speechless--but we all know that will pass :) I do NOT understand all of the amazing reviews on here--especially praising the hot smex. Yes, a few of the scenes were delicious (pool scene). But, really, this was almost like a guy's mentality of "if it's big enough, she'll just come until she passes out". Sigh. Not particularly hot when you feel like it's s real as something you'd find on a porn site--completely scripted, overblown and utterly fake. And the show more dialog sometimes, good lord. No.
So, how did I justify a 2.5 instead of a 1 star rating? I liked Flynn. I liked his epiphany (although it coming as a result of jailbait's chocolate eyes was a bit much), but I liked the idea that the band realized it wasn't healthy what they were doing and that there is something more from life than just one long endless string of fucks. I liked his family (I hated the surprise sister thing, but whatever). And Tessa and Flynn did have total chemistry--that was written pretty well. But the special snowflakeness of her--she couldn't ever get off before him and he wouldn't get off before her and sigh. No. Just no. show less

"I choose you. I choose life. I choose love - our love - and I'm going to fight my way back to you."
Oh my heart!! What a wonderful, beautiful, heart-wrenching story! My heart was breaking for both Garrett and Shaelyn. What a horrible thing to have to experience together, only to have it rip you apart.
After going through a life -altering and soul-crushing event, Shaelyn struggles to recover -to continue to live her life. Feeling that she is now only a shadow of the woman Garrett married, she show more makes what she believes to be the ultimate sacrifice. She pushes him away so he can go find someone else - someone that can give him what she no longer feels she can.
But Garrett is having none of that. She may think they're over, but he knows they'll never be over. He's going to fight for her - for both of them. There is no life without her. Just when things are looking promising, another tragedy strikes that may tear them apart forever.
This book put my heart through an emotional wringer!! I was begging Shaelyn to call Garrett - just pick up the phone, Girl!! I loved the way Garrett never lost faith in her, or in the love they had for each other. Gah!! These two are amazing!! Pick up the duet if you haven't read it yet. Have the Kleenex handy - trust me, you're going to go through a box.....or two. Even though what this couple endured was at times difficult to read, I left the duet with a warm fuzzy feeling that can only come with an Ella Fox happily ever after. Totally recommend this duet to everyone! show less

I am not sure how I was remiss in writing this review. I could have sworn that I had done it when I finished considering it was one of my favorite books of the year but alas I hadn't.
This book was everything. It was filled with love, laughter, and was truly magic. This is the second in the series of standalone but interconnected books about the Cruz men and their loves. I am not sure what is in the water where they are from but these men are swoon worthy and beyond delicious. Alejandro show more meets Kaya with the unexpected help of a matchmaker. The matchmaker in this case is a peacock named Elvis. Sounds ludicrious I know but trust me when I say that Elvis was the star of the show. I laughed out loud more times than I could count. I am not sure how the author did it but she made a peacock have a prime role and it wasn't weird. I was so hooked I had to subscribe to this author's newsletter in hopes to find out more about this handsome fellow. When she posted a little bonus epilogue from Elvis' point of view I became even more hooked.
I cannot stress enough, read this book. Have a good laugh and fall in love with the Cruz men and a wonderful peacock named Elvis. show less

DNF at Page 110.
Ugh, I tried, but I've more than reached my limit now. Where to start?
I already wasn't all that happy with the first book but thanks to not being able to leave a book of a series on my reader, I still started the second book. I'm not sure where all the high ratings come from, as I disagree to 100%. It's a case of: "Did we read the same book?"
Let's start with the dual POVs: Damien and Brooke tell the story in mostly alternating chapters, which would be quite alright if one show more POV wouldn't simply repeat every goddamn action that the other POV already covered. That combined with some recounting of events from the first book, had me reading almost every event twice - ergo half the book would have been enough, it almost felt like the author was just trying to painstakingly fill more pages with events we already read about nonetheless (and that's about 40-50% of the book).
Oh, one more thing, if I write a series and book 1 and 2 play out in the same timeline, then I should make sure that everything lines up. Please correct me if I'm wrong but in book 1 there was no mention of a trip to Vegas with all of them, was there? That shouldn't happen.
I'm no friend of love at first sight, soul mates or anything else in that direction. It sometimes works in books but in "Shattered Hart" it was just another detail that set me off.
Spoiler Alert:
So with a lot bitching and moaning I actually reached Page 110 and I just can not go on from here on out. That scene between Damien and Brooke where Damien manages to "keep brooke's vriginity intact while sliding in and out of her until the barrier stops him" is utter bullshit. It's.not.fucking.possible. It's not so hard to open up google and at least check where a hymen is located before I write such a scene, is it?
It may be a small detail but it just was one thing too much. And it hopefully teaches me that I shouldn't buy the second book of a series before I read the first one. show less
