In 1878 and 1879, an eighteen-year old girl named Esther Cox became the center of poltergeist activity allegedly caused by a gang of six ghosts. Actor Walter Hubbell visited her and her family during the haunting, recorded some hard-to-believe phenomena, tried to turn the girl into a lecture-hall celebrity and failed when she found herself unable to tolerate heckling. An more objective account of the incident is found on Wikipedia in the article “Great Amherst Mystery.” I would have to show more believe in ghosts if I believed what Hubbell wrote. I don’t. show less

Very intriguing book, not sure about the true elements though ... It was fun to read!
Quick, easy read. It was written in the 1880's and is quite old-fashioned. You can easily imagine it being made into a documentary type black and white film.
