This a good book and I quite enjoyed reading it. I would have liked to give it the perfect marks but I'm having a few issues with the editing and the main focus of the book. I think I'll start with focus.
I know this book is classified as a romance book (and the author tried hard to make it as such) but I think this book is not that at all. This book would have been better if this has been written with a focus on the case and Sarah's sleuthing and the romance on the back burner. Sarah is an show more interesting and strong character but she's not really a romantic lead. The most interesting part of her character are her lawyering and sleuthing skills and not her romantic entanglements.
Having said that, I think this book could use a little more editing. This is written in a first-person narrative and I know Sarah is an intelligent person and has a lot on her mind at all times but the author does NOT need to write every single thing in her mind. For example, there is a scene towards the end of the book where she is waiting at the lobby for her job interview and she saw the receptionist's attire. This leads to a lengthy flashback, though a very entertaining tidbit, does not serve the overall story at all.
But the storyline I think is very fresh and original. I am not a lawyer and I hardly know the judicial process but I really enjoyed the deposition scenes and I really liked reading about the case itself. I was actually looking forward to it rather than the romance itself which is ironic since I choose to read this book because of the romance. show less
