For someone who has bought Penguins for most of their life and who has spent many happy hours in bookshops looking at covers, trying to decide which to buy next, this is an enjoyable saunter through seven hundred covers, with several books receiving more than one cover (Nineteen Eighty Four and Lolita spring to mind).
It is fun to see which books that you have in your library which have made it into this book and which covers you remember from far off days. As I have a fair number of older show more second hand Penguins, I do have representatives of the early covers, but some of the earlier titles shed interesting light on the social history of Britain in the twentieth century (for example several titles feature vegetable growing for shows I recall). show less

Seven Hundred Penguins is more of a collectors book than reader's. In fact there isnt any reading; between its covers you will find around 700 odd famous penguin covers from over a period of time from around the globe. It is worth buying if you are a book cover/first edition fanatic, for as the book claims - There is no other book like it.
