I came across this book after it was referenced on an ABC podcast about the Monster Study, in which the author was interviewed.
The book is a lesson in empathy and understanding. It makes searingly clear the impact a stutter has on a person's life, but also asks why. A different response from parents and listeners could fundamentally change the way stuttering is viewed by all, and especially by the person with the stutter.
I felt chastened by the end of the book, and hope that in any future show more interaction with a person with the speech impediment, I can do my part to help ensure we both have a positive exchange. show less
