Short essays--they started as email newsletters--about random baseball topics. Absolutely delightful.
The important stuff is Wright's three-chapter essay on pitching; there are also fine essays on Joe Morgan and Honus Wagner. Not entirely sure the Tom House material is helpful, but I'd like to see a similar book by that author.

In general, this book is not as good as I remembered. It's still very good, though, and an important sabermetric standard. Fewer numbers in here than in Bill James or Pete Palmer, but the perspective is much like James'.

This short review has also been published on a show more dabbler's journal. show less
