I really enjoyed Jumper: A Day in the Life of a Backyard Jumping Spider! Even though it's an informational book, it's written like an engaging story, making it easy to get invested in. I especially liked how the book puts readers in the perspective of such a tiny animal, making an ordinary backyard feel like a huge world waiting to be explored, including wandering through the grass and under leaves which appear massive to such a tiny creature. The illustrations are one of the best parts of show more the book as well, even showing what it might look like to see through a jumping spider's eyes, with the edges of the pages appearing blurry and muted in color while the center is clear and colorful. I also noticed how the text changes size to match what's happening in the story, and the repeated phrases, like "That is how Jumper moves" and "That is how Jumper sees," help reinforce what readers are learning. show less

My beloved husband coaxed me into understanding the incredible and fun adventures of insects and spiders. They stopped being scary things...except for jumping spiders because, well, they can jump at you. Who knew someone had the skill to show a spider's many eyes as somehow warm and cozy looking?! It has happened! Great book for anyone (of any age) that's a little uncertain about spiders or the little creatures that co-exist with us. The last few pages are loaded with information that make show more the unknown fascinating and approachable. Well done! show less

Great combination of artwork and educational opportunities, some kids may be scared at first however they will love the jumping spider by the conclusion. Plenty of educational information on jumping spiders told in a compelling format. I would recommend this book for any school library or teacher.
