I’m pretty sure that I requested this book on Netgalley immediately when I got the first look at that cover. I know you aren’t supposed to judge a book but its cover. I know its not right or nice or good. However, everyone does it. I’m sorry to say, I’m guilty too. Please don’t judge me too harshly, I’m sure you’ve done it too. Still, look at that cover. Beautiful!
Scardust started out really strong. This book sucked me right in. It show more really grabbed me. I hadn’t ever read a book where the main romance is between two men before and I really liked the different approach. That drew me in. I liked Raleigh ok. He is the most flushed out character and he drives the plot. It’s his goal to get to Mars that the entire books revolves around. However, my favorite character was Meteor Man, as he’s called in the synopsis. I wanted to know more about him, always.
Then, I got about 25% into the book and the book really slowed down. Where I was speeding through it, I suddenly got bogged down. Now, I’m not going to blame this entirely on Scardust because at the same time that this happened I starter reading Six of Crows. I’m doing another buddy read, so I couldn’t tear through Six of Crows. I’m taking my time. Still, after reading chunks of Six of Crows, I had trouble switching back to Scardust. Once I got about 50% in, it picked back up. Maybe there was just a lull.
The ending for me was the most disappointing part. I can’t explain why because it’s such a huge spoiler. It just didn’t work out the way I wanted it to at all. I completely understand why the author went the direction that they did. It makes sense with the story and it wasn’t a shock. That doesn’t mean it ended the way I wanted it to. show less

DNF @ 25%
This is really sad but I just can't get into this book. The synopsis really grabbed me but so far it's not keeping my interesting. Maybe I'll try again some other time however for now I'm just not digging it
